2:20 PM NSW Trial Case Studies: Ensuring Safety and Achieving Connectivity

New South Wales currently leads Australia in the trial of connected and automated vehicle technology. Mr Wall will give provide an update on the numerous connected and automated vehicle projects currently underway in NSW as well as some of the preliminary findings from these projects including:

  • The CITI project which features the largest connected heavy vehicle testbed in the world and has collected more than four billion records
  • Incorporating C-ITS technology between vehicles and infrastructure so safety broadcasts and warnings can be performed
  • The Smart Shuttle Project in collaboration with Transurban being conducted at Sydney Olympic Park which utilises V2X technology in determining the readiness of highway infrastructure for automated driving

4:10 PM Expert Panel Discussion: Collaborative Efforts in Ensuring Passenger Safety- What Governments, Manufacturers and Insurers Need to Consider and Implement

There have been many technological innovations from hardware and software to AI but there are still many technical challenges when it comes to autonomous vehicles; integration of smart sensors, air bags and intelligent routing systems to work seamlessly with each other to ensure active protection for passengers at all times. Vehicle telematics involve an array of technologies; automatic driving assistance systems, GPS navigation and wireless safety devices
This Panel will explore:
·         AI powered driver assist features such as automatic braking, collision avoidance systems, pedestrian and cyclists’ alerts, cross-traffic alerts and intelligent cruise controls.
·         Design and development of infrastructure and telecommunication systems to safely support AVs
·         Effective models of insurance
·         Policies and frameworks to ensure high standards of safety
